Tefal Oleoclean Pro Inox & Design FR8040

Timer/display operated, but the heater did not energise and the upper-right heating indicator was off. Pressing the rear reset restored heating. This is consistent with the fryer’s overheating/dry-heating safety cut-out.

Timer on, heater and upper-right light off

Resolved / monitorHeating returned after the rear safety reset was pressed

1. Reported symptoms

  • Timer/display switched on normally.
  • Heating element did not come on.
  • Upper-right heating indicator was not illuminated.
  • Rear reset button was pressed and the fryer then appeared to heat normally.

2. Most likely explanation

The manual identifies a safety device that activates if a semi-professional fryer heats without oil. The control circuit can remain powered while the heater is locked out. The reset restores the cut-out only after the cause has been removed and the unit has cooled.

3. Other causes to watch

  1. Oil level too low, bowl empty, or element not covered.
  2. Previous overheating, excessive residue or a failed temperature-control component.
  3. Control unit not fully seated on the bowl, dirty contacts, or a damaged assembly.
  4. Heating element, thermostat, thermal cut-out, wiring or indicator fault if reset does not hold.

4. Resolution / history

26 July 2026: reset restored operation. No repeat date recorded yet. If the reset is needed again, add a new dated entry rather than treating repeated resets as a repair.

Staff-safe troubleshooting

Controlled reset and assembly check

  1. Stop and cool: turn the temperature control to off, stop the timer, unplug/isolate if safe, and allow the fryer and oil to cool fully. Never reset while handling hot oil.
  2. Check oil coverage: with the bowl correctly installed, confirm oil is between the MIN and MAX marks and covers the heating element. Do not run the element empty.
  3. Check the removable assembly: bowl seated flat, control unit fully down in its guides, element not bent or fouled, basket and lid clear. Do not force or operate with parts loose.
  4. Reset once: with the bowl filled with oil and the unit cool, press the rear reset using a toothpick or other non-metallic object, as described by Tefal. Do not use a knife, screwdriver or metal probe.
  5. Restart and observe: reconnect, set a normal temperature and watch for the heating indicator and temperature rise. Keep the first test attended.
  6. If it trips again: stop using it, label it “do not use” and arrange a competent appliance engineer. Do not keep pressing reset or bypass the cut-out.

Immediate status: usable only if it heats normally, oil level is correct, the assembly is complete and there is no smell, smoke, damaged cable, oil leak or repeat trip.

Assembly safety

What must be fitted correctly?

  • The bowl must sit correctly in the base before the control/heating unit is fitted.
  • The control unit and element must be fully seated in their guides; never run it hanging loose or partly inserted.
  • Inspect for bent guide rails, damaged plastic, contamination on contacts, loose parts or a distorted bowl.
  • The timer turning on is not proof that the heater circuit is safe or operating.
  • Do not bridge a microswitch, thermostat or thermal fuse. The manual does not authorise user repair.
  • The exact model suffix and serial should be photographed from the rating plate for any service/parts order.

ENGINEER HANDOVER

Tests if fault repeats

Check oil-level/dry-fire history, bowl/control-unit seating, element continuity, thermostat/high-limit operation, wiring, contacts and the heating indicator. Electrical tests are engineer-only.

PARTS ID

Do not order from this photo alone

The visible label supports FR8040 and 2300W, but the exact suffix/serial is blurred. Photograph the label sharply before ordering a control unit, element, thermostat or reset assembly.

Engineer handover

Repeated reset operation is a fault pattern

If the fryer needs resetting more than once, or the upper-right heating light stays off after a correct reset, remove it from service. Ask the engineer to establish whether the cut-out is responding correctly or is being triggered by low oil, poor heat transfer, a thermostat/probe issue, element fault or damaged wiring.
