Bunk Leicester postmix carbonation weakened during very hot conditions. After the top was removed to let the machine cool, and the weather cooled, carbonation improved and soda is working again.

No carbonated water and no carbonator light

This is a separate Bunk Leicester record, not an update to the Manchester Optima 7 asset.

OpenSyrup dispenses, but carbonated water and the carbonator indicator are absent

1. Symptoms and evidence

  • Coke and lemonade syrup are being pulled through.
  • No carbonated water is reaching the postmix machine.
  • CO₂/gas supply and main dispense machine reported fine.
  • Carbonator and glycol module were observed empty.
  • A 13A fuse was fitted as previously logged, but no carbonator indicator light is on and the unit has not restarted.
  • The carbonator reservoir was refilled with water, with no change.
  • A further heatwave this week is a possible aggravating condition, but is not yet proven as the cause.

2. Likely causes

  • Carbonator water bath empty, so pump has lost prime.
  • Water inlet shut, restricted or disconnected.
  • Leak or drain route has allowed the bath to empty.
  • Glycol circuit empty or not circulating, requiring separate service.

3. Correct next action

Do not switch the pump on while empty. Confirm the correct fill instructions/levels with the unit label or Abevco before adding water. Fill the carbonator water bath with potable water as specified, inspect for leaks, then prime and test only when the bath is full. Do not fill the glycol module with plain water unless its service instructions explicitly require it; use the specified glycol mixture and an engineer if uncertain.

4. Current status

Open and currently treated as a no-power/no-indicator fault. A replacement fuse has not restored the light. Record the external supply/reset result, any leak found and whether soda water returns after safe recommissioning.

Reset instruction visible on this unit: the photographed Cornelius label says the pump LED is off when the pump is switched off, flashes when the pump cuts out, and instructs: reset by disconnecting the mains electrical supply for 2 seconds. This is the first reset procedure to use; no separate user reset button has been confirmed. Never bypass protection or repeatedly dry-run the pump.

Engineer diagnosis

Abevco’s engineer believes the unusually hot conditions meant the machine could not keep up. The water became slightly warmer, reducing carbonation effectiveness.

Recovery

The top was removed to allow heat to escape, and cooler weather helped. Carbonation has returned and the soda is working better.

Prevention

  • Keep the stock room as cool as reasonably possible.
  • Maintain clear ventilation around the machine and do not obstruct heat discharge.
  • Monitor carbonation during hot periods and record room conditions if it weakens.

Escalation

If the problem persists or returns in normal temperatures, ask Abevco to investigate cooling capacity, airflow/condenser condition, water temperature and carbonation performance. Do not leave the top removed as a permanent operating arrangement unless Abevco approves it.

Keep the carbonator cool and monitor performance

  1. Stop dispensing carbonated drinks and leave the carbonator pump switched off.
  2. Check the nearby carbonator isolator/socket has not tripped. A competent person may test the socket with a known-good appliance; do not work inside the carbonator.
  3. Check the replacement fuse is the exact rated type specified for the plug/lead—not a higher rating—and inspect the plug, lead and visible connector for heat or damage.
  4. Allow the unit to cool, then use the reset instruction visible on its label: disconnect the electrical supply at the external isolator/plug for 2 seconds, then reconnect once. Do not remove panels looking for a button.
  5. Check the nearby mains/water isolation valve is open and the inlet hose is connected, not kinked or leaking.
  6. Look for water under the carbonator, around push-fit joints, drains and the glycol module. If leaking, isolate and call service.
  7. Read the carbonator label: it warns to fill the water bath before switching the pump on. Fill only to the specified level using the correct clean water supply.
  8. Keep the pump off until the bath is visibly/confirmed full and no leak is present. Do not repeatedly reset or dry-run it. If the indicator remains off, stop and arrange service.
  9. Have a competent operator or drinks-dispense engineer prime it, then test carbonated water at the postmix gun separately from syrup.
  10. If still no soda water or no light, ask the engineer to check supply into the unit, internal fuse/isolator, overload or time-out reset, inlet solenoid/float, pump prime, non-return valves, carbonation pressure, water-level control and carbonator motor.
  11. Heatwave finding: Abevco’s engineer believes high ambient temperature made the water slightly warmer and reduced carbonation effectiveness. Cooling the machine and the change in weather restored carbonation. If this recurs, improve stock-room cooling and ventilation; if it persists in cooler conditions, arrange Abevco service to check cooling capacity, condenser airflow/cleanliness, water temperature and carbonation performance.

⚠️ Burning smell, melted plastic, water near electrical parts, repeated fuse failure or a breaker trip: isolate it and leave it out of service. Do not bypass a safety device or fit a larger fuse.

Reset location and heatwave assessment

  • Likely reset area: Cornelius IntelliCarb training documentation describes a liquid-level control reset switch on the side of the carbonator control box, with a separate carbonator time-out reset function. This is a model-family reference, not confirmation that this exact CFS/RB200 has the same accessible control.
  • Heatwave: the Met Office reported a widespread England/Wales heatwave with temperatures into the mid-30s Celsius during this week. High ambient temperature and restricted condenser airflow can increase thermal stress, but the no-light symptom remains the priority.

Symptom: Coke/lemonade syrup pulls through but no carbonated water; carbonator indicator light is also off. CO₂ and main postmix reported fine. Replacement 13A fuse fitted without restoring the light. Carbonator reservoir refilled with water without restoring operation. A heatwave occurred this week; possible thermal-overload contributor, not proven.
Finding: carbonator and glycol module were previously empty. Carbonator label indicates a reset after loss of supply and warns not to run pump dry or before filling the water bath.
15 August follow-up: Abevco video-call engineer believes heatwave conditions reduced carbonation because the water became slightly warmer and the machine could not keep up. Top removed for cooling; cooler weather followed; soda carbonation is working better again. Keep the stock room cool and ventilation clear. If persistent, investigate cooling capacity, condenser airflow/cleanliness, water temperature and carbonation performance.
Please first check external isolator/socket, correct fuse rating, accessible reset/overload and supply into the unit. Then check water inlet, bath level/float/solenoid, leaks, pump prime, non-return valves, carbonation pressure, glycol fill/concentration and circulation. Do not open panels or bypass protection without competent service. Confirm correct fill/bleed procedure before returning to service.
